It’s a shame they weren’t more headstrong.
I’ve never understood this. I was put under for surgery and it was amazingly painless. Why not use that very drug, but enough to stop the heart. You’d be completely unaware. One or two deep breaths and you’re out, and you don’t come back.
I would think a bullet to the back of the head is best- you don’t see it coming and you probably don’t even feel it.
When you’re beheaded your head can remain conscious - which I think would be horrifying.
Painless except for the two or three seconds you are still sentient after your head is severed. I cannot imagine anything more horrifying than realizing your head is detached and there is no going back.
I’ve heard it asserted that a good sharp guillotine blade could sever the head so quickly that there would be sufficient cranial blood oxygen to allow the victim to be momentarily aware that their body was no longer attached to their head.
Unquestionable effective. Low tech, no fancy drugs or doctors or preparations needed. Could be administered the same day as the death sentence is pronounced.
We unquestionably have the need for capital punishment.
Make it so.

Gruesome, just thinking about this gives me goose bumps and makes the hair on my back stand out. I give credit to the French. They have a certain panache for this sort of thing.
Back in frontier Texas, we either hung’em of shot’em. All we needed was handy - a rope or gun, a shovel, and an alibi. Then along came electricity and you know the rest of the story.

I would think pumping carbon monoxide or some other gas would be the painless way. Always heard that car exhaust was a painless way to go. You just go to sleep and never wake up. That’s why people use it to commit suicide.
A shot of Propofol knocks you out in 10 seconds and then a drug could be administer to stop the heart. Much more humane and less messy.
That coffee shop that shows up on some executions must make a killing on execution day.

Do they make a Congressional model?
There was a conspiracy theory a few years back about the USGOV wanting to buy 300 or 500 guillotines, and the proof was a RFP or RFQ or whatever from the USGOV seeking tenders to build them.
It was said it was because Guillotines can kill mass amounts of people without using bullets, electricity, or gasoline.

There are also a few pics depicting the falbeil: the model of guillotine used by the Nazis. All-metal construction except for the bench the condemned was placed upon. The heavier blade meant that the machine could stand much shorter than the traditional French model.
Because of the weird French laws, a guillotined person could not have their body contributed directly for medical study. The body was placed in a wooden coffin (with the head between the legs) and taken to a remote pauper's cemetery for burial "without ceremony". The coffin was placed in the hole and a few shovels of dirt thrown atop it. Only then could medical personnel retrieve the body for students to use in anatomy classes, or the family could claim the body and bury it elsewhere.
