John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas wrote a song which became a hit when done by Scott McKenzie, and became one of those "hippie anthems" of that distinctive period. In this video, you can see clips of The Mamas & The Papas, as well as various other musical stars of that era.

(One of the lines in that song - "...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..." is sort of prescient, as that seems like a good idea if you have to go to S.F. today, in order to try to somewhat mask the stench of their public poop policy!)

That got lots of airplay on Boss Radio 93 KHJ as well as KRLA. Both stations packed 50,000 watts of power as they blasted the Southland with rock.
