WASHINGTON U.S. President Donald Trumps penchant for breaking rules makes it especially necessary for Canada to preserve NAFTAs independent dispute resolution system in any trade deal with the U.S., Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday.
This is the first time Trudeau has criticized Trump in the course of making his case for the preservation of NAFTAs Chapter 19 system. The system allows import duties imposed on Canada by the U.S. government to be challenged to independent panels made up of people from both countries rather than to American courts or to the World Trade Organization.

It is nice knowing you, Justin.
I want a 25% tariff on everything Canadian and you are justifying it.
Trump can probably fire Trudeau. It hasn’t been tried before, but it would probably work.
FU, Justine! Who needs ya? America doesn’t.
Weak as usual. You know you’re scared when you bitch to other people in the room to help you. Pathetic. Im sure this idiot was getting his handed to him at the lunch time and snitches to the teachers to help him..
He knew his “A Team” failed with Wilbur Ross last week in epic fashion now has to call in public opinion to save his pathetic ass..
His A team led by a widebody
Why don’t they go beg the Queen to send the Royal Navy to make us go along with that.
Yeah...
We NEED Canada. Where else we get our supply of beaver jerky!!??
If Trump does not drop a hammer on this Brow Boy,
I will be very surprised. And disappointed.
I would've agreed in the past - Molson was a TREAT back in the day, and the fishing is awesome - but it's no less so in Northern WI or MN or the MI UP. PLENTY of Hosers to go around up der, Ya Hey! ;)
These days there's a delicious Craft Beer Brewery seemingly on EVERY corner. Again, who needs Canada? Well, we'll keep Judy, though...and my goofy-talkin' relatives in Cobalt, Ontario. ;)
“Trudeau criticizes Trump, arguing Canada needs dispute system because the U.S. president breaks”
yeah, whatever, Justin ... apparently you’re determined for Mexico and the U.S. to move forward without you and your country ... I wonder how it’s going to work out for you when the U.S. puts a 25% tariff on Canadian-made vehicles and parts?
Canada”s largest export to the US is oil. Upto 2 million barrels a day are sold to the US at 40% below world price.
Why would you want to tariff that?
Have you ever heard President Trump mention oil when he talks about how unfair Canada is being on trade?
The US top export to Canada is auto’s and parts. Canadians buy more Ford F150’s from the US than we ship auto’s to you. We also buy trainloads of every other vehicle you make everyday of the week. Putting a tariff on our auto exports to you might not be help your auto workers.
I have family on both sides of the Niagara River and St. Lawrence.
It’s like a marriage. Both sides have to work at it. If they don’t it falls apart. Tariffs work both ways. The US market is substantially larger than the Canadian. Yes, Canada has raw resources and the ability to value-add. That is not the issue.
The issue is that China is sending value-added parts to Canadian assembly plants to avoid tariffs on their stuff by going through Canada. What Trump wants is to have Canada stop the Chinese from dumping their products into the US via Canada.
I don’t see how Canadians benefit from having Chinese parts put into products built and labeled Made in Canada. Wouldn’t it be better if Canadians and Canadian companies did that work?
I’d prefer a complete economic shutdown of our northern border.
Too many of our own corps and industries need to be slapped in the face over the export of jobs.
Cut it off and like a lizard’s tail, it’ll grow back. But here in the US this time.
Gee, thanks, Diana! I’ll bring my own beer. lol
Canada just screwed the pooch and a judge shut down their $2 billion pipe
line thanks to the environmentalists and aboriginal tribes
So unless oil comes by rail it aint gonna flow too much
They already import 65% of their oil
