Boy, 11 Years Old, Leads Police on Second High-Speed Chase in 13 Months [Cleveland, OH]

After a quarrel with his mom about video games, he grabbed the car keys and took off — now he's due in court in a few weeks ________________________________________________________________

A Cleveland boy of a mere 11 years of age has been charged for his involvement in a police chase that averaged speeds of about 80 mph.

The pre-teen is — surprisingly — a second-time offender, as he led police on a 45 mile-long chase that reached up to 100 mph just over a year ago, as Cleveland.com reported.

The boy is charged in juvenile court with three counts of failing to comply with the order of a police officer, one count of grand theft, and one count of criminal damaging.

The description of what happened seems right out of a movie: The boy secretly snatched the car keys off the counter at home, reportedly, and took off after an argument about his mom’s confiscation of his gaming console.

Cleveland police reports say he left in his mother’s 2013 Dodge Durango around 10:45 p.m. this past Sunday — and went on to somehow outrun and avoid three separate police officers while he was behind the wheel.

The same kid’s previous joy ride occurred on Oct. 26, 2017, when he was waiting for his sister to take him to school. He decided to hop in the driver’s seat and sped away — leading police on a wild, one-hour chase.

The mother, who had gone to bed shortly after the verbal altercation with her son, received a call from the boy’s father, who said he saw their young son driving the vehicle on West 117th Street and Memphis Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio.

After the father began to chase his son, the boy pulled into the former Brooklyn fire department on Memphis Avenue in an attempt to conceal himself.

Seeing this — and quickly discerning that someone might be in need of help — a Brooklyn police officer stopped by to check things out, according to reports.

At that point the boy quickly sped away in the wrong direction down the street as he swerved through traffic, disregarding stoplights along the way.

Going anywhere from 70 to 90 mph, the child was chased back into Cleveland before switching off the lights of the SUV in order to avoid being seen.

Only four miles after the chase began, the officer lost sight of the vehicle. Another officer then pursued the child, but only lasted half as long as he, too, lost sight of the questionably skilled boy, this time after two miles.

The third and final pursuer of the SUV was a Parma Heights officer, who reportedly chased the boy briefly before finally calling off the chase.

Just under half an hour later, the 11-year-old slammed into a parked truck, prompting the SUV to flip over.

He reportedly suffers from a cocktail of mental disorders, including bipolar disorder, ADHD, and oppositional defiant disorder.

Police reports note that the boy got out of the car himself — then collapsed on the street.

He reportedly suffers from a cocktail of mental disorders, including bipolar disorder, ADHD, and oppositional defiant disorder.

The boy received medical attention at MetroHealth, where he was fortunate enough to require only treatment for cuts and scrapes on his left hand.

Perhaps attempting to protect his reputation as an elusive driver, the boy told police he was not being chased in the moments leading up to the crash — and that it happened because he wasn’t paying attention.

An arraignment is set for November 21.

~~~
In the psychological “professions”, whenever the old diagnostic titles start to get too worn, cliche, and mundane, resulting in loss of profit, you replace them with new ones, with a strong preference for more syllables so that you can dazzle those problemed people with money to separate them from. But I’m doubting this kit’s ‘family’ had enough for a professional, so someone yanked this diagnosis out after the fact.
I agree. I used to take whatever vehicle had keys in it out on the fields of our farm when the parents were gone. My favorite was the 1955 Chrysler 300 my father bought new when I was eight and gave to my grandfather when I was about 11. By the time I was 12, I could get it up to about 80 in low gear on the smoothest grass path between fields. They should have gotten me to a track with a teacher. Jeff Gordon and many others of the era started on go-karts. This Ohio kid who drove the hell out of that SUV running from cops at night at 11 years old has real potential.
Well, he did kill his mother’s 2013 Dodge Durango. I imagine the family is running out of vehicles for him to steal.
Willfully fleeing the police
Stolen vehicle
80 MPH
Driving into on coming traffic.
This child needs to be locked up for psychic elevaluation.
Either that or just gouge out his eyes, no more driving.
