So there is equivalency between being forced to spend billions of dollars yearly and losing hundreds of lives to illegal aliens and an owl’s misfortune? Isn’t it Leftists who quote, “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?” Certainly if they were unborn children they’d be sacrificed. But an owl! Stop everything! We have to surrender because there is an owl at risk. “Eve’a buddy stand back or he shoot the owl!”

They are reaching a particular demographic. There are a fair number of people who care more for a bird than for hundreds of people.
It is just how they emote. I had a girlfriend who got all teary over a pigeon being affected by tear gas during riots.
To her, the pigeon was "innocent" but the people were knowing actors.
That is the demographic they are aiming at.
