The CRS are a paramilitary police service with a reputation as head crackers and brawlers. Deploying them armed with automatic weapons could mean trouble. The French people like most of Europe have been disarmed. Our Founding Fathers knew that tyranny and despotism starts when the police and military are armed and the people are not.
