I don’t know about inspire us. This is more like that moment when the person sitting next to you, who had seemed like a legitimately intelligent person, begins telling you with increasing levels of passion about chem trails and alien abductions. There is this moving target of unacceptability that sounds an awful lot like gimme. In fact you accept that this is gimme, because at least that means you are dealing with sane people who just want to play you to get stuff. The alternative is just too horrible to contemplate because it means that there is no possible solution, there is only management of groupthink that threatens to haul all of society into the abyss. There are aspects of both scenarios in this national moment IMO.
I think all this does is to make non-Lefties begin to stop trying to comfort the Lefties because it has become clear that they just want to destroy us all and rule over the wreckage.
It inspires me to fight back more, that is for sure.
