Frank Murkowski held the senate seat from 1981 -2002, when he appointed his daughter, Lisa, to the seat when he was elected governor of Alaska. She has held it since 2002 so it's been in the same family for 38 years now. Families.

Murkowski has time and time again reaffirmed her support for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largestabortion chain, even breaking from most other Republican Senators to vote in favor of continuing the organization’s federal funding.
Planned Parenthood praised Murkowski for her vote saying “Planned Parenthood is again thankful to Senator Lisa Murkowski for standing with the women, men and young people in our state”.
“What Planned Parenthood is leaving out is the recent scandal that caught them in the midst of selling baby body parts from the children they abort. Real estate developers say the land could sell today for nearly $120,000 more than the $179,400 she paid for it. Senate ethics rules prohibit senators from receiving gifts from personal friends if the value is over $250.
In 2010, Murkowski won the election with 39 percent of the vote with a write-in campaign, after she lost the Republican primary to Joe Miller.
