SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A mountain lion was recently spotted on video from a doorbell camera in northern California over the weekend.

The big cat was spotted Sunday morning in Natomas, a small neighborhood just north of Sacramento.

Police warned everyone in the neighborhood to stay inside as they tracked it down.

The 100-lb mountain lion roamed from backyard to backyard before officials were finally able to tranquilize it.

The wildlife team took the cat and will release it back into the wild.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

California man finds huge mountain lion hiding behind washing machine: 'We could have died'

FoxNews.com ^ | Feb 14, 2019 | Jennifer Earl | Fox News

Sean Ishol, of Lucerne Valley, California, was putting a load of laundry into the dryer Monday when he heard his two dogs whimpering and crouching down.

After cleaning out the lint trap and adding time to the dryer, Ishol walked over to see what was perplexing his pups.

His wife, Bobbi, was on the other side of the garage — where their washer and dryer is located — also inspecting the situation.

As he bent down to get a closer look, Ishol saw a dark shadow and two light eyes peering out at him from behind the machines.

Instantly, Ishol recognized it was a mountain lion and he slowly backed away, instructing his wife to do the same.

"This thing ... it’s just looking at us. I could have pet the dang thing [it was so close]," Ishol, who estimated the big cat was even taller than his 5-foot-8 frame, told Fox News.

"We both reacted. I went out to the door and my wife went to the opposite side of the garage, where it's locked."

Realizing his wife was trapped, Ishol grabbed a nearby PVC pipe and put it between the mountain lion and Bobbi.

When she successfully made it to their door, the pair ran into the house.

Mountain lion, deer plunge into California family's backyard pool during wild chase

FoxNews.com ^ | Feb 11, 2019 | Jennifer Earl | Fox News

Glendale residents Rachel Wong and her husband said they knew instantly something wild happened in their backyard when they woke up and looked outside Thursday morning. The pair decided to review their home surveillance tape to get a clue at what exactly went down — and that's when they spotted the encounter between the mountain lion and deer.

“It was pretty scary, kind of creepy,” Wong told KCAL. “I saw the video,” “I ran into the room and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, did you see this?’ And I showed [my husband]."

The video shows the mountain lion leaping toward the fleeing deer and landing in the middle of the family's underground pool.

The mountain lion quickly exits the water as the deer swims around for a few more seconds before escaping from the opposite side of the pool.

“It was pretty scary, kind of creepy."— Rachel Wong

Another camera on the side of the family's home spotted the mountain lion again chasing the deer as it exits the water and makes a dash for the nearby woods.

Mountain lion choked [to death] by Colorado runner after mauling was later eaten by other animals -officials

FoxNews.com ^ | Feb 7, 2019 | Madeline Farber | Fox News

The mountain lion that mauled a Colorado runner on Monday was later devoured by other animals — possibly other mountain lions — which made it difficult for officials who later conducted a necropsy, or animal autopsy, to identify the big cat’s gender and official weight.

Ty Petersburg, a terrestrial biologist with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, told the Coloradoan the feline’s organs had been eaten just two hours after officials had received the initial call about the man, who has not yet been identified publicly, being attacked. ..."

The victim, said to be in his 30s, was attacked from behind on West Ridge Trail in the Larimer County foothills during a run. The man was bitten on his face and wrist before he managed to pick up a rock and slam the animal on the head. He jumped on the animal’s back and choked it to death with his hands, arms and feet, Rebecca Ferrell, a spokeswoman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, previously said.

He was treated for his injuries — including facial bite wounds and lacerations to his body — before being released Tuesday morning. He is expected to make a full recovery.

In a separate interview, Petersburg told 9News the man apparently did everything wildlife officials recommend when encountering a wild animal of this kind, such as putting his hands in the air, making noise and standing his ground.

Still, the feline attacked.

I’m sorry. When they get into a residential neighborhood...they should be shot. He knows his way back no matter where the hell you put him.

Mountain lions roaming Colorado town in pride of about 10 'troubles' officials

FoxNews.com ^ | Feb 22, 2019 | Jennifer Earl | Fox News

In recent days, residents have stumbled upon several animal carcasses and at least two attacks on dogs have been reported.

The recent increase in mountain lion sightings prompted officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to alert the Edwards-area to be on high alert.

"This is a troubling situation and we are very concerned for the safety and welfare of the people in this area," CPW Northwest Regional Manager JT Romatzke said in an online statement Thursday.

"We ask everyone to take this warning seriously."

The CPW encouraged locals who spot a big cat in a residential area to alert them immediately and to keep a safe distance.

"We urge residents to be extremely cautious because lions are large, powerful predators and can be very dangerous if they've lost their natural fear of people," CPW District Wildlife Manager Matt Yamashita added in a statement. "We are monitoring the situation very closely."

Based on information they've recieved so far, officials believe there are two female lions that are each traveling with a litter of 3 to 4 juvenile lions — though the young lions are "nearly full grown, as large or possibly larger than their mother," the CPW said.

California removed the only natural predator a mountain lion has. Now that they cannot be hunted, they have no fear of man.

The big cats are portrayed with unflattering stereotypes that promote fear and bigotry. They just need acceptance and understanding.

Imho, it would be a good idea to open a season on them.
