My wife’s coworker is on the ship and is sending reports. Helicopters have been evacuating folks for a couple of hours now.

Pretty sure the Cruise Critic forums is going nuts trying to censure negativity of the cruise industry as usual.

Probably some pretty queasy feeling people on that boat. Wonder what happened to the propulsion.

I took a cruise in November. My observation was that it's just about inevitable that at some point, things will go really wrong. They're getting a lot less careful about when and where they sail, and cruisers are getting way too complacent about the inherent dangers of being at sea.
This is serious. I've been told that it's a myth that a ship can be evacuated without considerable loss of life. This ship isn't very large and it isn't far out to sea, so perhaps those will be advantages in successfully completing the evacuation.

Wallowing in the trough. She’s in deep doo doo unless they can get some tugs to her quickly, or get that engine running again.

Capacity 930, but they are evacuating 1300 passengers?
4 Diesel engines - bad fuel to knock all of them out? Or more likely a computer failure.

Yikes!
I refuse to fly or go on a cruise ship.
A little boat on the lake or in the delta is okay with me though.
