Her point is that those who have illnesses from mining should of course get their full pensions and any other assistance they need because of their time in the coal mines.
I like AOC (and Omar). They put these ideas out there for honest discussion. Both political parties have sunk, for decades now, to reducing very real issues we care about to being talking points to win elections.
Real Conservatives elected to the House started out that way. They ended when they sunk so low that they allowed Traitor Ryan to be Speaker.

Coal miners’ pension plans?
Thought they were all union since the 1870’s?
The coal miners are in poverty (in areas) but since the anthracite mining industry all but died when the railroads went from coal to diesel, plus the 60-70’s east coast “clean air” campaigns across the region, those who “retired” or lost work have long since passed away.
Recent miners? Why would they not be on fully funded pension plans? After all, it is the GOVERNMENT PENSION PLANS that are failing nationally!

So they can stop mining and live off a gov pension.

AOC: How about we start by fully funding the pensions of coal miners in West Virginia?Start what? If she's talking about ending all coal mining (why single out West Virginia?), what is to replace it as an energy source - windmills? What would the coal miners do without jobs - take early "retirement" on federal government pensions? So what will American taxpayers be shelling out for this mean airhead's grandiose design?

Since the New Green Deal offers free money for everybody, the unemployed miners should be well taken care of

Democrats like AOC pretend concern for 'workers' - it's a scam. But it's why she's pushing the 'pity/fake empathy' for coal workers - fake concern with one hand - working to destroy coal mining with the other hand.
Truth is the only groups AOC and other progressives represent are 'elites' and their pet victim groups.

My guess is that she is trying to curry favor with those who would be out of a job should the GND come into being.
Exactly...except just because youre a miner doesnt mean youre as dumb as a NY barmaid. (Apologies extended)

What would the coal miners do without jobs How about learn to become journalists? I'd believe them before WaPo, NYT, and CNN.

I support AOC’s and everyone else’s right to free speech. I’m delighted that Witch Nancy hasn’t been able to whip her new members into submission. If AOC brings up topics that haven’t been well thought out, it’s to everyone’s benefit that they be addressed.

Think the union management managed the miners pensions that and the companies going bankrupt leave retired workers with little of nothing. So much for union stewardship
