I grew up in a Boston three-decker.
My mother was from Nova Scotia-——the woman downstairs was from Newfoundland——my Mom spoke about our neighbor the way that your old girlfriend spoke about “Newfies”..

In the early 70’s I spent a summer camping in Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island and in every place over beers they told Newfie jokes, basic moron/blond/Polish jokes with some local flavor. Once started up you couldn’t get them to stop. Never heard and jokes about Labradors natives though.
