Yet, in The Walking Dead, the longest surviving character on screen is Morgan, who is Black. Moreover, in both shows, the best scenes tend to go to characters who are going to die. The practice of putting even likable and admirable characters at risk helps to maintain a sense of existential menace in both fictional worlds.
