She should have put in the $8 herself if she wanted to loan the money.
There has to be more to this story. Firing was way too harsh especially when the kid did pay it back the next day as he said he would.
Glad you like being called Kid, because it was intended as a lighthearted term of endearment.
Okay, so, no motorcycles, trikes or horses? Hmm, I guess you get the Peterbilt. Well clean out the cafeteria, and let the kids have their lunches. Itll be fun!
Thats different. I tend to agree with your new post.
I like where this is going. I like being called kid because I’m over the hill with a bad back, hence, not really keen on horses or motorcycles most days. The Peterbilt is perfect! 25 years ago I could drive one. I think I can still drive any forkin’ thing around. I’m going to go saw off one my shotguns ... in Minecraft, of course.
[[Firing was way too harsh]]
Hey- they call the police on little kids that chew poptarts into an “L” shape claiming it ‘looks like a gun’-
‘Wait... school lunch is $8? Isn’t that a bit high?’
Agree, something’s funny there...like she was feeding a bunch of others.
‘Yes $8.00 is very high. I can live for a day, including a steak dinner, on less than that. Of course, I buy on sale and cook at home.’
You don’t have Michelle telling you what you can buy and what you cannot buy.
You can always save money and order the vegan diet plate with a pine float.
where do we start with this? it’s a school. Keep a receipt book by the register and have the kid sign a chit and let the kid redeem it the next day. Otherwise, pay for it out of your own pocket like it’s Starbucks, and let the kid pay you back the next day. Not like the kid is going anywhere. And ‘repeat offenders’ are a signal to the school counselor that there’s a underlying problem in that child’s life. But make it more than a verbal transaction. Just in case somebody gets attacked by aliens on the way home. Kids shouldn’t go hungry from being rolled for lunch money or not enough quarters in the couch. Workers shouldn’t be fired when a reprimand and ‘probation’ will better suit the ‘crime.’ And people should be treated as people.
Sounds delicious!
The meals cost about $3.50 each. We make too much and always paid for our kids.
The account was probably at a negative balance. From what I understand, certain things, such as chips and snacks, are not included in free lunches and you must pay for them.
My youngest son spends about 80 a month at school. At 13, he eats everything in sight and is all lean and muscle. Swear he is growing in his sleep!
I’d agree $8 is steep. I can get a nice meal deal at Chick-Fil-A for $5.59 or so and bet its better than what Cafe Services slops out.
I seem to recall 25 cent milk from my school days and $2 bought your whole tray.
A steak dinner for 8 bucks!?! Where do you live?
If she did not have concern of the kid paying it back, the better way is for her to use her own money and the kid then pays her back, not the school. Now all risk, however small, is assumed by her.
JoMa
It was a loan that was repaid the next day......
“When a student at a New Hampshire high school put items on his tray that he didn’t have the money for...”
He should not have picked up the items if he didn’t have the money to pay for them.
Methinks there is more to this story. Why wouldn’t they just give her a warning not to do it again rather than firing her? I’d be willing to bet there had been other problems with her.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
