I am. And don’t call me serious.

This has all the hallmarks of midlevel managers pushing through a design based on goals and ignoring engineering concerns because everything was fine ON PAPER.

The fact is I don’t trust a plane that has software which can override the human pilot.

I saw an early report after the second crash that showed Boing didn’t have MCAS included in their training Flight Simulator.

Speaking of the Max 8, I opened my “Flightradar24” app on my iPhone earlier just to see what was flying around near my home and saw there was a Max 8 (not under any commercial banner) flying from Seattle to San Antonio. My guess is there was testing going on by Boeing engineers.

Hence the reason why it reminds me more and more of the disastrous design defect with the Lockheed L-188 Electra, where the engine nacelles were prone to break due to an unusual vibration from the engines.

I have enough reasons to not fly commercial anymore as it is.

Ironic that American Airlines had them on the Denver to Chicago leg just before the grounding...

I guess canceling my flight then was the correct thing to do.

Sigh.

Can ANYONE cite some pertinent FACTS?

In the absence of facts, and sometimes despite the quotable ones, I must rely on common sense. Common sense tells me a plane that requires software control over and above human control is unreliable. Here’s a fact: it has already caused one fatal crash. All software is subject to bugs. Murphy’s law applies. Sorry if I have more faith in humans than computers.

“. What percentage of Max 8 flights were completed successfully. Is it 99.90%? Is it 59% Is it 19%. Before we circle Boeing with pitchforks and torches can we get some FACTS?”

So, considering you take at least one trip in a day per day, if a car had those stats, you’ll only die in three years.

We need common sense.

“Can ANYONE cite some pertinent FACTS?”

Like what? How about the fact that two airplanes crashed killing hundreds of people due to a design flaw.

Or are those FACTS not to your liberal liking?

2 crashes in 2, 20, 200, 2000, 20,000, 200,000 or 2,000,000 flights? That is all I want to know. If you don’t know just say so.

Calling me a Liberal proves you are a no nothing asshole.

Let’s make it a numbers game then. Say only one out of a million flights crashes and everyone aboard dies. Are you suggesting there should be no attempt to investigate and determine the problem? And even replace the plane if that corrects the problem? Or is one in a million acceptable?

No. No. No.

Jets crash. All makes and models. I was hoping someone on this thread would know how profound the problem truly was with this Boeing model. It is very clear that NO one has any real data.

Let’s try another question: Why didn’t 100 crash?

Because the problem seems to occur only under very rare conditions. But that’s the standard we set due to the huge number of flights per day. I suppose you could just say that if people are willing to take the chance, knowing the odds, it’s their decision. Regulation vs. non-regulation, buyer beware. Then again, the sheer tragedy from just one crash cries out for something more.

LOL! I misspelled “know”. That was a mistake. Identifying you as an asshole was not a mistake.
