Thanks. Been working on Elizabeth Reed for a few days now. Awesome in its own right.

Nothing wrong with Duane Allman on the acoustic guitar, man. :-)

The only three acoustic players I like were/are John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell and Leo Kotkke. Music, like all art, is totally subjective.

In 1971 a girl I knew in college had a bf who traveled with the Alllman Brothers playing back up guitar. There was a guy in my dorm who was a music major and had two Martin Guitars and was pretty good. The girl introduced the guy from my dorm to them when they played in Denver and that night one of the Allman Brothers came to our dorm and several folks jammed into the night. On acoustics.

Is that Dickie Betts’ son and Duane Allmans’ son?

Guitar. Knew some of the bits but a couple buddies played it last week at a jam so I figured I NEED to know it. Not hard just long and sequences I have to train my old hands and finger to do. :-)

Bass player here. Elizabeth Reed and Les Brers In A Minor are two of my favorite Allman bros songs to play.

They are not the “Allman Brothers BLUES Band”.

They are the Allman Brothers Band.

I’ve been a music enthusiast my entire life. I spent 1965 to 1969 in Southern California in the military. I saw dozens of concerts. I saw all the highly-acclaimed guitar players and in 1973 just months before Dwayne died I was lucky enough to see the Allman Brothers play in Dallas Texas. Dwayne in my opinion was the best guitar player in the rock genre. I’ve seen them all and he was Head and Shoulders above them.

You missed the greatest acoustic player of all time Django Reinhardt

You should come to a jam some night with us. LOL! Of course it could be a drive for you. Currently doing 2 jams/week and getting ready to start a 3rd one outside if the weather would co-operate. 40 degrees and snow showers this morning. I like to call it “Indian Winter”.

Reinhardt died when I was six years old so I did miss him. I grew up in a household frequented by music. My mother played an electric organ and my father played upright acoustic bass, clarinet, various saxes, and guitars. On Sunday afternoons, he would invite some of his bandmates over to our house and they’d have what you’d call swing/jazz jams. This was in the early ‘50’s and after much reflection, I suspect I was being exposed to Charlie Parker and Charlie Christian influences. I don’t remember it but I was handed down some photos of my father playing a Gibson ES 150 like the one Christian played and the same kind of Gibson amp. I wish I had that set now. Anyway, I ended up taking up the electric organ, clarinet, various saxes and electric guitar. I only play guitar anymore.

He was arguably the best, indeed.

This solo, in my opinion, is the top of the mountain:

Dreams / Fillmore East / 1970
