I was the CACO in the navy for awhile. Seeing a dead body stays with you. The smell never goes away. At least he was outside, but it’s still traumatic. It’s not understandable unless you’ve gone through it.

Sooo ... euthanasia is good - people have a right to assisted suicide but we need to stop them from climbing Mount Everest for their own safety?

I believe the death for climbing Everest is 7-8%. Much like combat. Anyone who isn’t prepared to see frozen dead bodies isn’t prepared

Kinda obvious, isn’t it?

A waste of time, money and life. It makes the climbing companies rich. Other than that, it has no value.

Every dead body on that mountain once belonged to a highly motivated person.

It’s really a shame that nearly the only good job opportunities in Nepal involve ferrying tourists up and down a big icy rock, some of whom are so poorly prepared that the Sherpas spend most of their time on the climb keeping the tourist from killing himself or the entire group.

Every Sherpa is more of an adventurer than any Everest mountain climber these days. You don’t have to figure out how to get there, what to pack, where to stay, or even need a Tibetan phrase book handy, the tours take care of all of it. You just hand over your credit card and step where the Sherpas tell you to step until you either die from exposure or take a photograph with your cell phone.

Climbing to the peak of Everest will become stigmatized as selfish and bravado and will lose its appeal. That said, plenty of people in the world don’t care.

As a transoceanic sailor I hope one day to be eaten by fishes.

Why would anyone want to die in a place where they won’t be eaten by fishes?

(Or even eagles?)

It all seems like a big-money waste of time for a photo op.

These mountains have been trash heaps for years... “Save the planet” types dumping canisters and trash all the way up.

Everest is probably the most populous cemetery of all the world’s major peaks. Reverence those who tried and perished, but don’t be surprised. It’s high-altitude mountaineering, not badminton — and thank your lucky stars you’re not on K2.

Human version of Lemmings.

Maybe sheep.

Sheep will follow the lead sheep into mud holes, over high creek embankments and any other danger spot.

The saying about sheep: They are just looking for a way to die.
