I'd give her more credit than that for creating her position. Others didn't put her there. She was a full-on psycho con woman. I think at first she might even have believed she could do what she claimed, but then just keeping the carousel going took over. She isn't completely sane, IMHO.
The book "Bad Blood" is a great read.
She seems typical, although more obsessed, of other young businesswomen who rose to high positions by a combination of luck, sponsorship, and by leveraging a thin resume, and go off the rails trying to come up with ways of staying there.
Peter Principle on steroids.
She was a Harvard Medical school fellow. She never graduated from college, never designed a working medical device.
She conned Mattis into his support and I believe a position on her Board of Directors.

indeed it is!
and the HBO special based on the book is very powerful as well ...
and yes, it’s pretty clear she’s a sociopath, fairly intelligent (not unusual amongst sociopaths), but also had the ability to trade on her youth and looks ...
Didn’t know the details just assumed everyone wanted to believe her con. Bad Blood looks like a good read on a subject one would think was as dry as last years thanksgiving turkey.
