You're incorrect. You think blacks constitute more than 12.5% of the population simply because you read more news stories about them and their high number of children. I can assure you that rural America is FULL of white people who have more kids than they can afford, are not married, and live off the government. While it is true that black people are overrepresented in terms of percentage of population, there are more whites in this situation in terms of sheer numbers.

Unfortunately, our system rewards people for making stupid choices. Yes this woman made a bad choice leaving her kids in the car, but the blame here rests with the criminal, and I am not going to cry over his death.

I taught at an all-black high school in DC. When I asked students to break down race/ethnic composition of the U.S., the typical response was: 30% black, 15% jewish, 10% latin and the rest white. They were ever blown away by the actual numbers.

The lessons are twofold: 1) media representation/ awareness is quite out of sync with the actual population; and 2) people are quite insular, especially in urban USA.
