Most Americans know Bragg, Ft Benning, and Ft Hood. But I would bet dollars to donuts that very few folks who have not spent time at one of those places could even tell you who they were named after.

These men, while fighting for the “wrong” side, were generals—and pretty good ones at that. While I do not know specifically, most of those officers would not have been in any position to own slaves.

Gen. Bragg was “controversial” to say the least. To his rank and file he was a strict disciplinarian and his officers back stabbed him often. At least the cannons were all shiny.
