I also remember him as Hobo With a Shotgun.

Apparently, he was also a veteran. He served both in the Netherlands Merchant Navy, and the Dutch Army.

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”

I always found him to be scary. I think it came from his role in The Hitcher! I remember him telling a story of being a boy in post way Netherlands and receiving oranges from American Troops. RIP.

Iconic. Iconic actor.

I had an acquaintance tell me that he thought “Hobo With A Shotgun” was the best movie role Rutger Hauer had, so I watched it...

I didn’t make it through, because if my wife had come in the room and seen me watching that, she seriously would have wondered if there was something wrong with me!

Needless to say, I took future recommendations from that guy with a grain of salt!

“Like tears in the rain.”

His most iconic performance of one of the most iconic lines of any film. Vangelis’ music track helped a bit too.
