Tarantino’s Most Transgressive Film
The Atlantic ^ | 8/1//2019 | Caitlin Flanagan

Say what you will about Charles Manson, he really empowered women to pursue excellence in traditionally male-dominated fields. From armed robbery to sadistic murder at knifepoint, he put women in positions from which they had been traditionally excluded, and ultimately helped them to break that hardest, highest glass ceiling, the one that makes death row such a male purview.

Tarantino is deeeeep Hollywood:

Why did he so suddenly take on such a clear hostility to HIPPEES..?

I don’t get it.

It’s unmistakable; at at least 4 different times in the film he has people dumping on hippees, lighting them on fire, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I love it.

But I don’t understand WHY he did this.

I wonder if it was a nod to the ending of “Easy Rider”?

There was an interview a while back where he said ...“I knew even as a little boy that this hippie youth culture thing was a new thing and shaking the fabric of society a little bit. … It kind of scared me, frankly.” [Woodstock] “seemed ominous. Everyone hanging out in the mud, kids running around naked. It seemed like debauchery.”

Transgressive [snort!]

History of art:
“I have created a work of art — and it is beautiful!”
“I have created a work of art — it’s not pretty, but it will make you think!”
“I have created a work of art — it’s not pretty, there is little thought behind it, but it will really piss you off!”

That last category of art is something a 4-year-old can do easily.

To me Tarantino is the film version of Steven King’s novels. Sick. The only good one that SK did was Christine and it was noway like the book; infinitely better.

From the article:

“Why are Robbie’s feet, slipped out of immaculate white gogo boots and slung over a movie seat in front of her, so filthy? That is between Quentin Tarantino and his god. “

Tarantino’s foot fetish and his fetish for strangling women, are already very disturbing. Sounds like he’s developed a scatological fetish as well.

He’s a talented but troubled individual, as well as a cop hating leftist.

There is a lot of thought behind this.

I suspect it is just a California/Southwest thing. So many women wear flip-flops outside and go barefoot indoors that their feet are filthy - dark black filthy. It is probably more a depiction of reality than art with a message.

Granted. I should have phrased it differently. And perhaps a major motion picture by a major film director like Tarantino is not the best example for me to use.

My beef is really just with Transgressive Art — such as “Piss Christ”. Yes, I think the artist put some thought behind it. I don’t think the creation of the work took 5 minutes. I think there was a fair amount of thought and decision-making behind it.

But I don’t believe the thought was aimed at anything beyond “I don’t like Christianity”. I think the artist was trying to annoy Christians. I think Transgressive Art is usually childish. It is, for me, the opposite of what real art is supposed to be.

Again: Tarantino’s movie is probably more than a mere Transgressive piece. But I get triggered by headlines that talk of a “most transgressive film”. I think real art aims at being more than that. I think Tarantino aims at more than that.

This was a surprisingly good review. I thought the movie was also better than I hoped it would be.

The difference between Charles Manson and Tarantino?
One is a film maker who love gore.

He has an admitted foot fetish which is showcased in all his films.

The movie is enjoyable - much better then than The Hateful Eight or Inglorious Bastards (though it does steal from the later).

Appreciate your guidance I’d like to see the movie.

Tarantino is a jerk but a talented jerk.

My cousin and I discussed it and decided there was
a tie in to the hippy girl putting her feet on the
dash of Pitt’s car.

Interesting. Tarantino still has all these feet scenes because that’s his fetish.
