And now you know why the U.S. abandoned its nuclear rocket program.

Radiation? What type was it? Radio waves, microwaves, light, X-rays, gamma rays? Were radioactive materials released? If so, then what isotopes have been released?
Being hit by a few kilowatts of microwaves can boil your insides and kill you, but that is far different than something radioactive.

I was involved in the nuclear aircraft program back in 1955. My work was on guidance, not the power plant, but I had to learn a lot about the power plant. It wasn't just the crew that had to be shielded. The radiation would have killed the gyroscopes as well as the crew. Not good. Nuclear reactors are OK in sea-going vessels, where you can accept a lot of shielding, but not for aircraft. I doubt they'll ever work for spacecraft either. Not until we can use Unobtanium for shielding.

“” “Radiation levels temporarily soared 20 times above the normal level in Severodvinsk” “”
Fake news. Right now it is 0.15 mSv radiation level across the road from Navy shipyard in Severodvinsk.
