I have Windows 7. The Microsoft Office Starter 2010 stopped working last night with a pop up window -
"This version of Microsoft Application Virtualization is incompatible with this version of Microsoft Office lick-to-Run. For more information, contact your system administrator."
This has never happened before and also wiped google search engine (yes, I know) out but finally, in the wee hours, got google back with my bookmarks and history so that's fine.
Yes, updated and checked for viruses.
Back to Office - Yes, I've done a search and most every solution is to either:
1) Go into Programs to uninstall/change/repair. I've tried several times to repair it with the Windows Office Starter pop up window but it doesn't work.
2) Or completely uninstall and download to reinstall it again. Problem is, I can't find any site that has it to reinstall. The MS site that was recommended for people back years ago doesn't exist anymore - 404. Can't find it at MS.com. CNET only has a "try me" which is a limited trial so that's no good.
Did MS mess us over again? Thinking it may be related to an update a few days ago?? Updates usually messes something up and I spend the next week trying to fix it.
Had Linux and it died after 2 years so am not switching over again. Have another computer with Windows 10 but can't stand it so am holding out as long as possible with my old friend 7.
Windows 10 is a blight on mylife.
“lick to run”?
in before someone said “linux”.
Was that “kick to run”? ;-)
Do not lick windows!
That is taste-ware!
Only lick the windows on the short bus!
“lick-to-Run.”?
Did you download the porno version, “mistakenly”?
Seriously I have had 2 Windows 10 OS’s puke in the last 2 months.
Linux doesn’t just die on it’s own. Had to be an inside job by someone with the key to the door. :)
Download OpenOffice. Been using it for years instead of Office. Works fine.
I bet Windows 7 “phoned home” and Microsnot decided you can no longer run their program.
Dont’cha love it when it tells you to contact your system admin, and you’re not even part of a system?
I have a similar problem.
On my Win7 desktop, MS Office Starter quit working at all. When I try to update it, it stalls out.
On my Win7 laptop about a month ago, I started getting notices to update the MS Office Starter. I click ‘yes’ and nothing happens. Then, the message window pops up again and asks whether I want to update it. The cycle repeats.
I have automatic Windows updates turned OFF on both machines.
I really don’t mind because I use older versions of Word, Excel and Publisher (1997-98).
Bet on it.
Did you try googling it?
Here is one entry discussing the problem and possible solution. You can cut and paste the error message (all or portions) into the goggle search box and it should provide links to possible solutions.
