The mayor of Boston announced Monday that every kindergartener in the citys public school system will receive a savings account, complete with a starting $50 balance this fall at beginning of the school year.
Mayor Marty Walsh said Boston Saves, a pilot program which has benefited about a dozen schools since 2016, is slated to reach all Boston public schools by Fall 2019. The city will then take steps to expand the program to charter schools. The initiative aims to increase college and career access by supporting low income families in saving and planning for their childrens future.
Every child deserves to hear the message We believe in you and you can do anything from the first minute they walk through our school doors, Boston Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Cassellius said in an online video message. I encourage every family whose child is entering kindergarten this year to participate so they can take advantage of all of the wonderful benefits of the program.

I would guess I large portion of the parents of these children well try and find a way to steal it.
Yes they will be running short at the end of the month, and knowing that their child has 50 bucks , will just take it.

Did they get voter registration forms too?
How long before there will be protests that $50 isn’t a “living wage” and they all want $5000...morons!

12-year-old kindergarten illegals and leftist American parents (it’s Boston) will figure out that one has to provide info upon initial logon to begin accessing the account, and hack in to others’ for cash.
Why would we ever be told about it?
When their parents steal their money to buy drugs the kids will learn their first important life lesson:
Never trust adults!
People will fail it multiple times now.
What are they thinking? That won’t come close to the amount needed to buy a new pair of Nike AirMax sneakers, even if they are stolen.
I got out of that sh!thole just in time, if twenty years too late.
Hey if they save that money they could have a whopping $1,649.38, when they retire (assuming a 6% rate)
Daddy has $50. If beer is $2.00 a bottle, how many bottles of beer can daddy buy?
Teaching the valuable lesson that when you save your money over long periods of time, you get nothing in return at zero percent interest?
Never too soon to develop a socialist mindset... Welcome to the government's teat... Forget your birth mother's...
Got to teach the kids young that the government is the source of goodies (if you vote Democrat).
In principal that’s a great idea, but even back to my day in the ‘70s the way student aid worked, you and your parents were chumps for saving for college.
