Check out a movie called “Lagaan”. You’ve got to be able to handle Bollywood conventions (like people breaking into totally-stylized singing and dancing for no good reason), but you can only fully appreciate the denouement if you know some of the subtleties of the game.
I actually got to play a pick-up game once - a real hoot. They tried to put me at silly-mid-on - would have none of it.
