Company let me go for no real reason early this summer. Prior to finding another job, had requested ONE unemployment check and the company doesn't want to pay it. This is in Texas. Have hearing this morning on the phone at 7:30 a.m. - any advice from knowledgeable Freepers? My brother, who is a manager, said to stay calm and just stick to the facts. So, will do at least that.

I didn’t fit in at my last job either. I wasn’t a drug using, adulterous crook like the rest of the executive team.

Are you in IT? In our industry, unless you are a contractor, I’ve found that professional courtesy has most companies routinely approve UI requests, even for borderline-case firings.

I know someone who was told they were let go with cause who told the Unemployment office that was said, yet the Unemployment office requested proof from the company, and the lawyers never responded, so the person got unemployment.

You need to find out why they let you go. The unfortunately reality is that the vagaries of human nature is that most people, usually unknowingly, constant give predatory employers cause to let them go. This is not an accusation to you, but reality.
I don’t know the laws in Texas, but there should be a way for you to find out the cause that is giving them the ability to prevent you from receiving your unemployment.

Sometimes you’ll get a supervisor who just doesn’t like you and sees to it to get you gone.
I’ve had that unfortunate experience.

My older son (the union carpenter) was just laid off after a 3 year plus stint with a particular construction company. He has to be out of work for ten days before he can apply for unemployment.
The last time that happened he was called back to work in six or seven days; we’re hoping he does as well this time.

Been fired several times in my life when I was young.
Never drew an unemployment check. Not once.

Sounds like you found a company that might be better to work for.
