Not if you go into the "public" sector. In that case when they find out you are clueless they just hire more or promote you out of the picture but you keep the job and income, retirement and all the perks.

Harder to get fired in the public sector but not impossible. Doesn't really apply here however. I can only recall a couple of our students in the past 20 years going into the public sector as almost all our students have much more lucrative job offers in the private sector.
