It was. As I indicated in Post #1, it is breeding within a species, which is "crossbreeding" by definition. Take it up with your dictionary, or with Wikipedia:

"A species is often defined as the largest group of organisms in which any two individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring, typically by sexual reproduction."
Pretty obviously, crossing two different species cannot be done.
