The Biggest Takeaways From a First Listen of Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’

Kanye wasn’t lying; this is all about God. From the song titles to lyrics, Jesus Is King is centered around Christianity. If you haven’t listened yet, expect lines that illustrate Ye’s relationship to Christ and mission to spread the gospel. “I know Christ is the fountain that filled my cup/I know God is alive,” he sings on “God Is.” While some lyrics are celebratory and sound like testimony, Kanye also sprinkles in more aggressive bars that could be interpreted as commands: “Follow Jesus, listen, and obey,” he spits on “Closed on Sunday.” Later on “God Is,” he instructs fans to “worship Christ with the best of your portions.” What you won’t hear on this project is profanity or overtly sexual lyrics. The popular Nicki Minaj collaboration, “New Body,” is noticeably missing from the project because Nicki and Yeezy “weren’t seeing eye to eye” on the clean direction he was taking his music. Lyrically, this is what Kanye intended it to be: a family-friendly project.

A review of Kanye West's latest album. I've followed Kanye since his "The College Dropout" debut, and while I've lost track of his more recent work, this turn to religious music sounds interesting. Kanye has been one of the best producers of other artists' rap music over the last couple of decades, but he's a talented rapper and musician in his own right. I'll listen to this new work.

Not gonna listen to it cause it’s not my thing but I wanted to get in before the NEVER HAPPY bunch and say good for him.

He’ll reach a #### of a lot more people than I or 1000 average people will with his music.

It doesn’t matter what you were yesterday. Or most of us would be accepted nowhere.

I wish him the best and that his music reaches many who need it.

I rejoice to hear this.

Phil. 1:18. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.

When Obama called Kanye a “jackass” for how he treated Taylor Swift, I was pinching myself for thinking that Obama might be right for once, and I never thought I would, just a few short years later, find myself admiring Kanye and despising Swift. But, as another famous artist once said, “The times, they are a-changin’”.

Kanye is boldly proclaiming himself to be a follower of Jesus. And Swift has sold out to the homosexual and abortion agendas.

I’m all good with this but have two fears.

I don’t know enough and hope this doesn’t branch into some crazy sect with false beliefs.

I hope this isn’t a rewind of Bob Dylan who put out one or two “Christian” albums and then seemed to completely reject Christianity.

What is certain is that the Black community desperately needs to hear the gospel in a new and fresh way.

Good on you. God can use any of us if we turn ourselves over to him. I’m too old for this music but my sons have both listened to him in the past. It would be great to see many come to God through the message of the gospel

I hope he’s sincere

I also hope he has influence over his wife and her sisters to stop the flagrant poses in their lingerie for the public.

It's amazing isn't it? One we couldn't imagine is saved and the other we thought was "nice" was revealed.

God's hand is being more and more active in our country right when we need him the most.

My younger brother is still a teen, not black, and a huge Kanye fan. And are you kidding me? Given the crises affecting the youth and even the adult population these days — you think it’s only black people with problems?!

Yeah I hated him lol

Disrespect, rude, lewd music i thought.

But some of that could have been said about me 25 years ago in my mid 20s :)

You grow older and hopefully wiser.

I’m very happy for him and wish him much success.

Did he back down a little from supporting Trump. Yeah.

But WHO ELSE had the guts to SAY ANYTHING in that music industry?

I’m hoping he can do something about the way his wife dresses in public. Her excessive skin show doesn’t help his testimony.

Apparently his conversion has affected his mindset concerning that issue...he asked Kim (wife) to please not wear the revealing clothes anymore, that it bothers him and it was only meant for him to see...she got upset and said Kayne essentially pushed her in that direction and that she was not following the same path as he was taking right now. So yes, I do believe God is working on Kayne.

It’s interesting because all my teenage and 20 something age kids all listened to the album and gave it a 2 thumbs up and I heard my 18 year old discussing the album with his buddies on playstation so word is getting out and the kids are listening. Who knows...look at the ones God has always chosen in he Bible...a tax collector, a murderer, a complete narcissist, a prostitute and so on...why not Kayne?

I just saw a speech he gave to a bunch of black people. WOW he UTTERLY destroys democrats, explains how they took God from the black family destroying it how they poisoned with welfare. I lost the web address but look around, you’ll see it although I can imagine LeftoNazis are doing everything they can censor it.
