Its no secret that Jerry Springer has seen more examples of the decline of civility in society than probably anyone.
So when he blames Donald Trump for the current rise in rudeness, maybe hes onto something?
He thinks so anyway, as he told MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle during a segment on Friday.
I used to joke and say that my anger at the president is that he took my show and brought it to the White House, Springer said.
He then talked about civility in a manner familiar to anyone who has seen one of his final thoughts that used to end his talk show.
Civility is critical in terms of our norms, and we cant function as a society unless we have norms of how to behave, said Springer, the former mayor of Cincinnati. You cant pass enough laws to take care of every human interaction.
But Springer said for norms to work, top leaders have to take them seriously.
When they misbehave, when they say the norms dont matter, when they say, You can use whatever language you want, anything you can get away with, get away with it. If you dont pay taxes, youre smart. Demeaning other people. When they have this behavior, it tells society that we really dont have any norms anymore, Springer said.
He added: Theres no appropriate way to behave. We cant have that in the leadership of our country.
We can change policies, well survive that [but] once we do away with civility in terms of our institutions, weve lost it.

Er, well, no. Why do you ask?
This from the schmuck who was thrown out of office as mayor of Cincinnati for writing checks to hookers?
Says he who profited from degenerates...
If this isn’t a case of: “Pot, meet Kettle”, there never WAS one.
A former mayor who also was a dim. Still is a dim.
Yeah, Jerry wanted Hillary because she talked so neat and nice and then would steal your paycheck.
somehow I don’t recall Trump telling people to get up in the faces of Republicans at restaurants and gas stations and such. Or Trump telling people to get out in the streets and ‘speak truth to power’. I don’t recall Trump saying it was fine to call people ‘whitey’ and ‘crackers’ or to hate the police. Or to challenge people for ‘white privilege’ or ‘male privilege’ or ‘heterosexual privilege’ or not showing enough ‘respect’ for minorities who are somehow their new overlords. Or to blame western civilization for the world’s woes. Sure have heard a lot of that from the Left, tho. Jerry must live in quite a bubble.
So because Trump calls the left out for the lies they tell he is not civil.
What a joke.
The uncivil among us are on the left, they are LIARS and damn proud of it too.
This from a guy who wallows in sleaze with the ease of a pig in mud.
Jerry brought us the Hillbilly Ninja. And Ninjettie. The judy chop.
Right on....pot calling kettle black. Lack of civility scale scores Trump 1 and Springer 99. What an ignoramus!
How could this not be satire coming from the King of Lack of Civility!?!?!
I’ve seen his show from foreign countries — I shudder to think people over there form opinions about America based on his show.
Jerry Springer is a whoremonger former Democrat mayor. He knows all about creating uncivil dialogue. His career in television is based upon it, “Whoooooaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!”
His show existed for one reason....to perpetuate stereotypes , be it racial, gender, etc for the sake of TV ratings. Judging from the shows history and the people he has taken advantage of over the years , Id say incivility is nothing new. If you’d like to understand why the people of the world are so desensitized sex, violence.... oooo even bad words? Blame the internet...period. Its easy to be uncivil online isnt it? To have no consequences for your virtual actions? Please Trump may be harsh but hes hardly a catalyst for the down turn society has taken in recent years...and by recent I dont mean the last 3 , try the last 10 or so.
Big deal
In 2020, hell get one vote, just like everyone else.
Someone outta whack a chair across Jerry.
