(December 15, 2019 / JNS) The past week clarified a lot of things about the state of the American Jewish community—and its antagonists.
The two assailants who walked into the kosher supermarket in Jersey City on Tuesday and opened fire intentionally targeted Jews. The killers belonged to the black supremacist, virulently anti-Semitic “Black Hebrew Israelite” movement which claims its members are the true children of Israel and the Jews are satanic imposters.
The shooting in Jersey City marked a predictable escalation of the anti-Semitic attacks being carried out against Orthodox Jews in the New York area. The focal points of the attacks to date have been the ultra-Orthodox communities in Brooklyn. Over the past two years, the frequency of assaults has increased sharply. Most have been perpetrated by black antiSemites. None have been carried out by white supremacist anti-Semites.
This is an important distinction because progressive politicians like New York Mayor Bill De Blasio and Sen. Bernie Sanders routinely present the anti-Semitic violence in Brooklyn as the product of white supremacists.
And while it is true that to date, white supremacist anti-Semitism has been the most lethal form of anti-Semitism in America, from a political and social perspective it poses a smaller danger to Jewish life in America than the three other forms of active anti-Semitism in America today: Progressive/socialist anti-Semitism, Islamist anti-Semitism and black antiSemitism.

“Fiddler on the roof” musical is a great piece on this. Most on the people presumably running away from Avanteevka at the end of the movie settled in NYC in 1905 in real life. Their remnants who managed to stay in Ukraine were the main force behind a Communist revolution in Russia in 1917.

And they wonder why their host country is often unstable and in trouble.
60% of the Russian Government were Jewish just before it turned Soviet Communist.
Perhaps with such influence, they could instead actually support a Bill of Individual Rights and a Separation of Powers. Without supporting a Free Republic, the future is bleak long term. It is just a hint.
Jews did well with Israel. But if they went further and created a Free Republic there, surrounding hostile nations could not resist but join in the prosperity.
Trump made the “mistake” of telling Jews in business that they are tough competitors and so Paul Krugman breaks down in tears, lol. And they are, indeed, killers in business. I still bear the scars from working with them! They’d be nuts not to vote for Trump but they, sadly, may all be nuts...
Where I live now - a small city in Alabama - if I look at the names of the department stores downtown (long gone, of course) all the names are Jewish. They indeed ran all the southern dry goods stores and many were beloved by the citizenry. Where did they all go? It’s impossible to find a decent bagel down here!
It sorrows me that those dry goods stores have disappeared. I honestly think I got better value and prices than I do at Walmart these days. Yes, the biggest burden we older FReepers face is remembering "the good old days".

I used to know the current tobacco prices from my coworkers. It seemed like everyone had a couple of acres planted in tobacco. Back then tobacco sold for about one dollar per pound, and an acre would yield at least 800 pounds. Today the yield is much higher and I think tobacco is fetching over two dollars per pound.
My significant other (common law wife, LOL) is from Cumberland, Maryland. Cumberland's motto is "where the South begins". Western Maryland, once you get west of i81 is identical with West Virginia, with coal mines and hunters and where the 2nd amendment is still honored.
