Todays Cryptogram
QTABQ QMKCEMQN BN ECANQN BUJ XLNMAN BN VMLDJTAU. VMLUANA NBSLUE
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
ITS A STRANGE WORLD OF LANGUAGE IN WHICH SKATING ON THIN ICE CAN GET YOU INTO HOT WATER. FRANKLIN B. JONES
Author starts it off....
You got the author right off the bat? Good job!!!
Got it. Took a few minutes.
Last 3 letters of the first name were a blatant clue.
I found it challenging. I considered that the author might be of that class. Had I done so, and guessed correctly, it would have been easy.
You got me to thinking about it from a different angle and suddenly got it.
a mini stumper. Tried to figure out what word starts and ends with the same letter. Somehow with all my tossing of useless letters all over the place, the second part of the eighth word appeared. Went with it and solved the CG.
I’d like to chop chop the author.
Without guessing the author, and with no punctuation, double letters, or obvious patterns, I’d be left with 5 of the 8 words ending in the same letter. I’d go with my two usual suspects from there.
There’s always someone that gets me started on a mental exercise....
dived, dared, diced, going, civic, level, tenet, and kayak contain patterns, sucks, tacit, taint, taunt....
...tryst, widow...
...saves, sales, sates, socks, sores...
...knack, knock, kiosk....
I took a stab at the first word and it worked out. I had about a dozen dead ends before that.
you left out “gundog”
hee hee hee
6 letters...but I thought of “river.” Make it stop!!
