Didn’t she beat out 800 other actresses for the role? What’s with this recent trend to refer to women as actors, to apparently be gender neutral?
So then, at the Oscar’s and other awards shows, will awards specifically for actresses be done away with, if the powers that be have determined that acting should be described in gender neutral terms?
She was pretty but had serious mental problems from an early age.
Well the term actress is a bit nonsensical. You could add that suffix to every noun...welder and weldertress etc. The Oscars use it for marketing purposes. They could also say Best male actor and Best female actor.
Whatever.
There’s nothing there yet man.
I mean, there’s nothing there.
What i’ll never understand about guys that go after kids, even 14 or 15 year olds.
There’s no WOMAN curves yet to be attracted to.
I guess that’s why they’re sick.
She didn’t wear the famous heart shaped sunglasses in the movie. That was something that photographer Bert Stern came up with when he took the photo for the movie poster.
James Mason was kind of amazing in Lolita.
I did not know that about her. But living with a mental disorder is not terribly uncommon with people in the creative professions.
Lolita was quite a racy movie for it’s time.
No one would have expected the great James Mason to portray a man lusting for very young girls. James, just like his actress first wife Pamela Mason had a very regal, upperclass bearing.
I this where the porn term “lolita” comes from? Epstein’s “Lolita express.”
I’ve never seen Lolita (and never will) but I have seen Night of the Iguana...one of my very favorite films.Richard Burton was good,Ava Gardner was great but Deborah Kerr was absolutely brilliant.
Depends. Some girls develop early, others develop later. Nabokov’s character in the book was described as just barely starting puberty. Audiences could “accept” a letch going after a 16-year old Sue Lyon (who was clearly through puberty), but would’ve been reviled if Kubrick had made her a young-looking child of 12. Even the 1997 remake, which had a 15/16-year old actress (who was rather tall) couldn’t quite go that far, either.
I went to Summer Camp one year when I was about 12 years old, and was taught how to bait a hook, cast, reel in, by a male teacher.
I told him that I was becoming a ‘fisherwoman’; and he said, “No, the correct term for one who fishes is ‘fisherman’.”
I never had a problem with that.
Well it comes from the novel.
His best comedy role ever!
Yes!
