No, no.
The base reason is that it takes two to pay the bills.
Before, one employee was paid enough, after a while, to support a household.
Since women were put into the workforce to keep labor costs down it now takes two.
No room for error by the workers.
I disagree with your assessment. I earned a college degree in Computer Sci and have been able to provide for my wife and three children even in NJ. Not sure for how much longer in NJ though.
...that and the real cost of all combined taxes has soared as fedzilla escaped the ropes holding it down and grew into a gigantic entitlement monster. Up to the 50s and 60s, a single breadwinner was all that was needed for a family to live a comfortable life.
Depends where, though.
It seems that it’s more expensive to live in blue States.
Dont buy that line. Ive had a good but modest income. Buy a small house and used cars. Eat at home. Do your own chores and home repairs.
We raised and home educated four kids that way. Kids moved out so our expenses are much lower. I can buy what I want and still hunt clearance racks.
On the other hand, if one doubles down on house payments, the house will be owned free and clear before retirement. Etc..
