Marxist beliefs are simply the latest in a long history of elite political ideologies that try to transform human nature through coercive measures. The fundamental force that underlies human economic behavior is self preservation and that of one’s family and community.
The American experiment was an attempt based on Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations treatise to harness that behavior by limiting government control of private property (capital) and maximizing freedom so that those with greater ability or drive or genius would be able to excel even it it separated them in wealth from other less capable people. The theory was that this produced a greater good to everyone than picking classes or castes that would determine who would win and who would lose.
The wealth gap that resulted required progressive intervention as it grew including such things as progressive income taxes and social security but in general it has worked very well for most people.
Marx and his followers soon learned that great political power could be had by organizing the people who resented those who had done better than them. They were the original “parasites” that conned the masses into believing they could violate the laws of economics and give them a bigger piece of the pie than they could bake for themselves. Bernie Sanders has made a career of this scam and Pete is just a watered down version of the same snake oil.
