Bonn didn’t say that until the DOJ had him “cooperating” with them five years later.
Ah, I mistakenly thought you were responding to the guy who was objecting to use of the dog.
Got it, thanks.
And, I think "dog" to some black people is like "rope".
The other police officers who were there testified against her (according to the news articles).
After being “interviewed” by the FBI.
A police K9 is not legally deadly force. It’s legally about the same as using a taser.
And people wonder why increasingly some cops seem to take their time, sit in parking lots sipping coffee, etc. Too bad she caught the thief. She must not have mastered the art of turning on her siren 4 blocks away as she rolling in at 20 MPH.
BTW, just an aside. Wonder what became of the burglar.
So sorry for your loss.
Bullshit. Hands up don’t shoot again?
“On her arrival at the scene, Officer Mohr, with her K-9 in tow, called for the two men to come down from the building roof. While they did come down, they ignored police orders, conversing with each other in Spanish.
When she saw one make a sudden movement, Officer Mohrs concerns were heightened because neither of the two had been patted down for weapons and neither was handcuffed.
The young officer, fearing an attempt to flee or worse, yelled Stop! When one of the subjects failed again to comply, she released the K-9 with orders to bite and hold. Within moments, the two suspects, Ricardo Mendez and Jorge Herrera Cruz, were in custody. Mendez was an illegal alien from Mexico; Herrera Cruz an illegal alien from El Salvador.”
No, it was a Mexican and Salvadoran. They started the jibber jabber in Spanish and made a move.
Sounds like Bond made sure he landed on his feet.
You have to read the entire article. She was tried 5 years after the incidence for violating this guys civil rights and they had to go after in two trials before she was convicted. So it was a BS case to begin with.
The news articles say the perps were illegal aliens, one from Mexico and the other from El Salvador.
From this article: https://www.aol.com/2012/02/14/police-officer-convicted-of-police-brutality-free-after-eight-an/
IF I understand correctly...
She was acquitted on a "conspiracy" charge, but the jury was hung on the other charge. At the second trial, she was found guilty of that other charge:
Five years later, and a day before the statute of limitations expired, Mohr was charged with harming Mendez by "acting under color of law to willfully deprive him of his right to be free from the use of unreasonable force," as well as one charge of conspiracy.
The jury acquitted Mohr on the second charge, but was hung on the first. When she was tried again, she was found guilty, and under then-mandatory sentencing laws, was sentenced to prison for 10 years.
IF her side of the story is true, then her fellow officers didn't stand up for her. They threw her under the bus.
IF she's lying, then the other officers told the truth. We'll never know, but 10 years seems a long time for a dog bite.
I wasn’t suggesting such. I answered the question asked why cops don’t shoot suspects anymore.
Eventually he was caught selling crack cocaine and deported to El Salvador. The other also was deported.
Yep. It's the name of my yard maintenance folks:
"Lawn Order".
When threatened with Federal prosecution, people are likely to do anything to get out of it. She was acquitted by a state jury, so that makes the Federal interest in the case very smelly.
Is a dog lethal force?
