Back in the day SI was where all sportswriters aspired to work. Read Dan Jenkins' stories of working there in the 1960s. Of course the chief editor back then was Andre Laguerre who was a French veteran of WW II who escaped Dunkirk and later served as De Gaulle's press secretary. The point being the magazine had people running it who had great life experiences, instead of SJW journo-school graduates.
