Irony.

Florida officials mum on coronavirus tests of state residents

State health officials are currently sending specimens to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab in Atlanta and waiting for results, which can take three to five days. That lab is handling specimens from across the country.

Rivkees says he hopes to have lab testing available at the state’s labs in Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami, but the kits that were issued were tainted and have to be remade and reissued.
...
“It’s so wrong how China is handling this,” Scott told reporters on Tuesday morning at a mail distribution facility in Miami. “I think what you’ve seen is both the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the (National Institutes of Health) have been more transparent as this has gone along. The problem that they do have is that the Chinese government is not transparent, so whatever you’re getting out of China, you’ve got to take with a grain of salt.”

Professor Iwata Kentaro MD, MSc, PhD of Kobe University, Shindai · Division of Infectious Diseases.

He made it onboard the Diamond Princess eventually and saw no proper infection control measures at all. When he tried to implement proper protocol he was made not welcome. He now fears he may himself be infected and is self quarantining.

It’s funny...there are not even public service messages about washing your damn hands. That’s just basic hygiene. Too much to ask for.

Are those safe for humans? Or dogs / cats? Obviously one would have to be in dire straits, or getting there, and dose appropriately...

I’m not seeing anything for warm blooded pets that doesn’t require a prescription from a vet.

Now, I think the chance things will get that bad here is about the same as the chance of the New Madrid fault letting go in a big way (major earthquake storm as in 1811-12). But, then again, I’m not THAT far from the New Madrid Fault Zone, and it IS sorta getting “due”...

Solar and batteries. I’ve been doing ham radio off the grid for ten years. Little DVD players use almost no power.

They are made in the same Thomas Labs, who also make dog and cat meds.

I would not give anything to my pets without first talking to a vet, but what I don’t want to happen is they need the med and it is completely unavailable.

I was telling my wife about the movie director that was turned away from the hospital and went back home. He may have infected the entire family - who died.

She had a good idea. People that suspect that they have it either go some place by themselves, or homes that already have it can invite them in. Easier said than done though.

I suppose this would be a good idea run through one’s church, or in your neighborhood where you know the people.

I don’t know. If it was my child and they were turned away from the hospital, I would set up an area in the house to care for them. I have some decontamination supplies. Space heaters so could shut off the central heat to their room.

Put some plastic barriers up between the hot zone and the clean zone, with a decon area in between.

I think locking everyone in their homes has had an obvious impact on the reported cases.

I hope it’s burned out. Time will tell.

From your link: John Sinnott, an infectious disease specialist at Tampa General Hospital and chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of South Florida, also presented on the virus Tuesday from a global perspective.

He said of the 15 cases in the U.S., 13 people had traveled from the region where the virus began and the other two were relatives. He added that children are largely unaffected by the virus, and that getting a flu shot, washing hands and wearing face masks can largely mitigate the risk.

WHAT?!!!!

That'd better be a misquote, or... God help us...

Fewer Oreos for Asian countries....

Mondelez has reopened plants in China, expects coronavirus to hurt financial results

Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put said today at a conference that the company has reopened its four plants in China, but they are not running at full capacity yet. The Oreo-maker expects to see some impact on its revenue and margins as a result of lower Chinese demand for its snacks during the Lunar New Year holiday, but Van de Put said that the company’s outlook “is still the best we can give you.” None of its employees have been sickened by the outbreak. — Lucas

Coronavirus could impact 5 million companies worldwide, new research shows

Key Points

A special briefing issued by global business research firm Dun & Bradstreet analyzed the Chinese provinces most impacted by the virus, and found they are intricately linked to the global business network.

Almost half (49%) of the companies with subsidiaries in impacted regions are headquartered in Hong Kong, while the U.S. accounts for 19%, Japan 12% and Germany 5%.

Dun & Bradstreet researchers found that at least 51,000 companies worldwide, 163 of which are in the Fortune 1000, have one or more direct or “tier 1” suppliers in the impacted region.

Solar and batteries. I’ve been doing ham radio off the grid for ten years.

I have handhelds for doing public service stuff (ARES/RACES). Fire breathers (80 watts on 2m/70cm) and mobile HF that runs nicely on a cigarette lighter. Normally I have a mobile emergency services mindset. Perhaps, not mobile with the emerging threat. My wife is also licensed and add that to her credentials as a police/fire/EMS/911 dispatcher. Out of the office, she does ARES/Animal Rescue Reserve.
