Ja'Net DuBois, one of the stars from the TV series "Good Times," has died.
Police in Glendale, Calif., said they received a report about the DuBois' death late Monday. She appeared to have died of natural causes and no investigation is ongoing, police Sgt. Dan Stubbs said. No additional details, including her age, were immediately available.
BernNadette Stanis, who played Thelma Evans Anderson on Good Times, said she learned of DuBois death Tuesday from the actress daughter. Stanis said DuBois appeared to be in good health and they had appeared at a signing event two weeks ago. She noted that DuBois kept to herself and no one knew exactly how old she was.
DuBois had a prolific career beyond the 1970s hit Good Times, winning two Emmy Awards for her voice work on the WB series The PJs. She also composed and sang the theme song for The Jeffersons." DuBois song Movin on Up provided a joyous intro to The Jeffersons during the shows 10-season run.

If only the family unit of today was as strong as that family was.
she really is movin’ on up now. RIP!!
Dyn-o-mite! Oh, wait...
RIP
Liked the show.
Rest in peace, Ja’Net, Thanks for the memories..................
I never did watch this show but I saw little teeny moments of it back then. You could tell it was a really good show. The people were likeable.
But did NOT know she sang Movin’ on up. Well, girl, I STILL cannot get that song out of my mind.
Must’ve done a good job, lol.
So, here’s to your ‘movin’ on up’ RIP. You were beloved.
I had no idea she sang the theme song for rival show The Jeffersons. Very interesting. Did she ever make a first appearance on that show?
Guest appearance.
I watched Good Times and Whats Happening and The Jeffersons, etc. reruns every day as I was growing up in the late 70s and early 80s. I loved those shows so much.
She was a pretty lady. Always liked her.
On the show, a young Janet Jackson played her adopted daughter.
I met Jimmie Walker last year.
Nice guy, he’s on our side.

Lear would not bend and Rolle also did not appear for the last season.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
It would seem that Lear did in fact bend because that is not how they wrote the father out of the show. I believe he went to work on the Alaskan Pipeline and was killed in an accident there. I was a big fan. I preferred it over MASH at the time.
I never knew that. Good for Esther Roll, standing up for what is right. And may this beautiful lady RIP
Esther Rolle did in fact return in the final season when her daughter Thelma was about to get married to football player Keith.
Rolle’s Florida was especially poignant in the finale when Thelma and Keith celebrated their first anniversary—and Thelma announced she was pregnant.
Loved the episode in which Florida implored Winona (DuBois) to tell her adopted daughter Penny (played by Janet Jackson) about the facts of life/sex. Winona woke up after Penny was attacked in their apartment building.
Moreover, the finale revolved around how Florida was joining Thelma and Keith in moving to a better home that just happened to be in the same building in which Winona and Penny were relocating.
J.J. announced he was taking his own apartment (after giving Thelma and Keith a gift of tickets to The Bahamas IIRC) and Michael said he was going to moving into his school’s dorm.
Loved Good Times and always believed John Amos left because he couldn’t stand how Jimmie Walker basically stole the show.
The news of James’s death in a Mississippi car accident, revealed in a telegram read at the going away party and Florida’s stoic demeanor (not reacting to grief) until she smashed a punch bowl was extraordinary!!!
Good Times bump
Right on. I remember hearing podcast interviews with Jimmie Walker during the 2016 elections (or thereabouts). He is one of us as far as I recall too; and still very funny. Ill have to look him up on YouTube again. Funny thing is, he looks nearly like the twin of one of my friends, and we joke about it all the time.
That was a great, great show, I used to watch it all the time, and Thelma was dyno-MITE! I thought she was a good looking lady.
A different article stated that she was 74 years old.
