Say what you want about Shatner being a ham (and let’s face it.. there’s a lot to be said) but he could really sell those moments when he had to stand silently and react to horrow and tragedy with just his facial expressions. Sure he’s a ham but back then at least he knew when and how to reign it in to great effect.

they didn’t have huge show budgets, they had to rely on other things...the best they could

Sure he’s a ham

In "Star Trek", he played a captain who himself was a ham. Perfect casting. And just by sticking around, doing record albums, Canadian grocery store ads, "Airplane!" cameos, Oldsmobile ads, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Priceline ads, game shows, he managed to transcend his own typecasting.

Well said! It’s going to be hard to lose Shatner - but he’s figured out a way to live forever. ;)
