I currently have maple trees tapped, and have a gallon of cider in a carboy bubbling away, as we speak (so to speak).

The apple cider I bought though, so that’s not homesteading. :/

We tapped three maples yesterday and they are just GUSHING! Beau makes the best maple syrup!

I would like to find a way to make $$$ off of our woods; I am LUSTING after a wood chipper so I han make mulch for between my garden beds and for the landscaping around the house. I’d also like to learn to make soap. Beau wants to try his hand at cider once we have a glut of apples - we have 6 trees and they are just about old enough to produce a bounty in the next year or so.

So much to learn and do! :)

I make 10 gallons of hard cider every year. Great stuff.

You need the right apple trees to make cider.

Cider makers call eating apples "Water Bombs". On the other hand cider apples are not very nice to eat. So have a couple of each. Remember that some apple trees only produce every other year so select your variety carefully.

You will need a grinder and press to make cider but you can make the press fairly easily.
