Today our Walmart had plenty of paper products, pet food, and grocery staples. But the aisles of rubbing alcohol, sanitizer, wipes, etc., were empty. We took a cruise in February, and I always buy a bunch of Clorox spray sanitizer to take on board — which I did this time pre-cruise. At least we have plenty of that left over.

I believe the CDC said they will no longer be doing compilation of nationwide stats. However, Flutrackers decided to start doing their own compilation somewhere, I’ll post a link when they do.

That is why you want testing to be cheap and easy—and I think that is doable with the automated tests that are available (currently used in South Korea and some other countries).

Failure to test is a triage move. Once you hit triage mode you are in deep doo doo...

There are several scientific studies we have discussed here which prove (imho) that this disease can spread as an aerosol.

Can you link to those studies? I think there has been no studies on COVID-19 that demonstrate that aerosol transmission is a method of transmission. There has been anecdotal evidence of aerosol transmission.

A good article on some issues of virus transmission can be found here:

If it gets into our nomad/hobo/vagabond/beggar/homeless community a roundup would be necessary.

Church? Unless you have six feet between pews, I would stay home.

Churches will have to adapt, might have to set up something like those old Drive Thru theaters. They might have to set up a stage outside the Church and broadcast the service through a small power FM signal that people can get from their car, and have all the cars park in the same direction toward the stage. Best for churches to set up a goto fund on line to take in tithes and offering instead of handling possible contaminated cash.

ACE-2 receptor for My Corona appears to be more prevalent in Asians but YES, everyone has ACE-2’s for this bug. There is one theory related to the receptor implying that folks on blood pressure meds that act on the ACE-2 will lower the available ACE-2 “parking places” for Cov-19 to get into....lowering risk and/or severity if caught.

1 more in Montgomery county for a total of 4, and one in Harford County. Also, there are now two in DC and two in Fairfax County.

Maybe. Filling carts with toilet paper, but not a lick of extra food.

Repost from last thread: Just found out there is another Princess ship (Regal) being held off the Ft. Everglades coast with two workers suspected of being infected. Apparently, the workers had contact with/on one of the other Princess cruise ships (Diamond/Grand).

The U.S. State Dept. has issued the following:

U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying
health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes
increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship
environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many
countries have implemented strict screening procedures that
have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers
from disembarking. In some cases, local authorities have
permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local
quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has
evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks,
repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for
U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local
authorities.

stream services so that my mostly old-people congregation is not at risk**

drive-in’s ! still a social event, while maintaining car-distance. One of the most stressful elements of the Wuhan shutdown has been social isolation - even when out to grocery shop the people are few, far between and heads down on the streets. People need to see other people and exchange smiles.

Below is a link to a study in relation to the bird flu (2009). While the viruses mutate and are all a bit different, the envelope that protects them are all pretty similar. And yes - the are aerosolized.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2843947/

ABSTRACT:

Over the past few years, prompted by pandemic preparedness initiatives, the debate over the modes of transmission of influenza has been rekindled and several reviews have appeared.

Arguments supporting an important role for aerosol transmission that were reviewed included prolonged survival of the virus in aerosol suspensions, demonstration of the low infectious dose required for aerosol transmission in human volunteers, and clinical and epidemiological observations were disentanglements of large droplets and aerosol transmission was possible.

Since these reviews were published, several new studies have been done and generated new data. These include direct demonstration of the presence of influenza viruses in aerosolized droplets from the tidal breathing of infected persons and in the air of an emergency department; the establishment of the guinea pig model for influenza transmission, where it was shown that aerosol transmission is important and probably modulated by temperature and humidity; the demonstration of some genetic determinants of airborne transmission of influenza viruses as assessed using the ferret model; and mathematical modelling studies that strongly support the aerosol route.

These recent results and their implication for infection control of influenza are discussed in this review.
