It’s “cheaper,” because you have de facto slave labor on the production line, and don’t have to make payroll or deal with unions. Get a clue, dumbass Cuomo.

So he is basically endorsing slave labor to reduce the cost of everything?

Scratch a socialist, find a slave owner.

Really. Made by prisoners or made by Chinese. I’m flummoxed.

“New York’s version is 75 percent.

He said the state will be churning out 100,000 gallons a week”

I guess inmates won’t have to drink that crappy wine made from canned peaches and fruit cocktail, fermented under their bunk anymore.

A gallon of that juice should go a long way. Sounds like they will be swimming in it

I did not see anywhere this is forced labor. I would think the prisoners involved in manufacture would like their families, relatives, and others protected from Covid-19.

Cuomo said the “superior product” is not only cheaper than brands made by greedy commercial businesses

WTF. Always a hit against capitalism. The commercial businesses that make products have long standing contracts with thin margins for shelf space in stores. Meanwhile, it's okay to use slave labor to make a commercial product and go in completion against private enterprise. Show me where in the US or NY constitution government is give the power to do this. Cuomo needs to be attacked for this. He's a worthless POS.

Pound him on being a 21st century plantation owner who forces negroes into labor for pennies an hour, wages that rival the poorest nation's of the world.

Williams ‘Lectric Shave filtered through white bread was a preferred apertif when I worked on the CD Unit at a State Hospital.

There is no such thing as “price gouging” in a free market system. Price is the rationing mechanism when there is a sudden surge of demand. The rising prices draw more supply into the market and the price subsides. Pricing is the rationing method in the market in which one way or another there is rationing. If prices don’t rise then the first buyers get the supply and people hoard supply. If the price rises then those with more need and more money receive the rations and hoard less so that more people receive and new supply reaches the market sooner which depresses the price and those who canot buy at the higher price can then buy. Those who would pay higher prices when the supply is scarcer are the ones who would normally be fastest to buy when shortages occur so it is pretty much a wash except that the “greedier” pay more and the slower are supplied sooner.

Prisoners do everything from making license plates to running farms. I don’t see a problem with this.

I don’t necessarily see a problem with prisoners learning a skill or staying busy. The problem is see is when a government official compares the cost of prison labor to produce a good or service to the private sector and basically claims that he can do it cheaper. Especially one that supports red tape, union contracts, higher minimum wage, etc. Everything that drives the cost up to the private sector. Is he offering a union contract to the prisoners, is he offering a $15/hour minimum wage, are all OSHA safety rules being followed.

Come on this is not about prisoners working it is about the State of New York profiting off of them and trashing private enterprise.
