The first Kentucky Derby winner ever disqualified from the race is once again making headlines for the wrong reasons.

Maximum Security trainer Jason Servis is one of 27 people indicted by the Southern District of New York in a wide-ranging horse racing doping scheme. Servis is alleged to have administered performance-enhancing drugs “to virtually all the racehorses under his control,” between 2018-20.

The Southern District of New York alleges that Jason Servis doped Maximum Security, the world's best racehorse at the moment, with a PED called SGF-1000. This is horse racing's worst nightmare.

Servis was caught on a wiretap talking about SGF-1000 with one of the drug distributors, who told him not to worry about Maximum Security testing positive. "There's no test for it in America."

Perhaps it was poetic just that Maximum Security was disqualified in the Derby.

I wonder if tennis player Russian Maria Sharapova's coaches got that idea for Maria. She was penalized 15 months for taking "performance enhancing drugs." She WAS unbeatable for a while.

Now after the 15 months are over and she's back playing, she AIN'T so good anymore.
I will assume that the drugs were NOT her idea.
Poor Maria. She'll always have an *** by her name.

Criminals screw up everything. The winner used to have to go to the spit box in Detroit harness racing in the ‘60’s 70’s. To keep the winner clean, one of vets ocassionly would give a mild sedative (according to my uncle) to the other horses they didn’t want to win. Lot’s of criminals out there. I was a groom a couple of summers as I was attending college. I usually took care of about 6 or 7 harness horses.

(I won’t talk about the lip tattoo for ID purposes shenanigans) How does the innocent better know that the horse in the program for his past performances is really the horse in the gate or behind the car.

Thanks for posting,

If Lance Armstrong would’ve identified as female, he could’ve dominated female cycling without the PEDS.

It is my belief that we are going to see more of these investigations into horse racing and the trainers, grooms, and stable hands that are in charge of the everyday maintenance of them. I also believe this is pressure from PETA, that is behind this move. I have said many times that as soon as they were able to put dog tracks out of business they would start on horse racing. They have absolutely no interest in the dogs or horses welfare, they only are in the business of control over the entertainment that millions of people enjoy and support. PETA and their goons in congress are destroying the sport of kings, and the people who enjoy this wonderful sporting event.

"SGF-1000 was analyzed by racing regulators in 2014 and found to contain no known performance-enhancing ingredients, according to Dr. Mary Scollay, the executive director of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, which is funded by the racing industry. However, Scollay cautioned that the substance could have had its formula changed in the ensuing years. She also reiterated that many internet pharmacies make unsubstantiated claims routinely for substances that are not known to have any efficacy.

In the case of SGF-1000, the main ingredient was “I think, sheep collagen,” Scollay recollected. That substance and others like it that are ingredients in similar products would not trigger a positive in drug tests because the substances do not have a known pharmacological effect and are therefore left off drug screenings."

PETA is definitely trying to end horse racing in California. And they may end up succeeding.

"MediVet uses patent-pending technology, which may assist the stimulation of trillions of stem cells in vivo from a dormant state to an active state.

In stallions, the product has been shown to enhance semen fertility and motility rate. In an initial trial using a 26-year-old Thoroughbred stallion, SGF-1000 increased the horse’s fertility from 60% to a remarkable 90%.

SGF-1000 Biological Breeding contains no drugs or chemicals." --AllAmericanCup.org, 2012 [ad in PDF]

Just marvel at the mere idea that one of the horses in question in the indictment could have been bred by a stallion using SFG-1000. lofl

“...I have said many times that as soon as they were able to put dog tracks out of business they would start on horse racing.”

Besides PETA, I believe that the legalization of other forms of gambling is a big cause of the demise of dog and horse racing. Dog and horse tracks lobby for the right to have other forms of gambling on the grounds. Why not? Gambling is already going on. Then the tracks realize that square footage needed for racing could return a lot more money if the space required was filled with slot machines.

We’re lucky to have a retired greyhound. My wife thinks ending greyhound racing is a good thing. I tell her that if racing is eliminated, there will be few greyhounds to adopt in the future. Racing greyhounds have been bred for a singular purpose for more than a century. They haven’t been bred to be pets. Because of that, they are reasonably free of disease and physical defect that seem to plague popular purebred dogs. The funny thing is retired racers do make fine pets.

So glad to hear you have adopted a racing greyhound. They do make wonderful pets and even if they are “couch potatoes”, they are gentle and loving.

Wonder how far back we’d have to go to find a time when racing and other sports were all clean? The late 1800’s? Early 1900’s?

College sports, NFL, NBA, baseball, Olympics, golf, tennis, etc.,,it’s just not the same enjoyment watching them compete — knowing the amount of drugs involved instead of pure athletic ability.
