The craziest thing is that our Shop Rite closed down its “shop from home” option - where you could pick up your groceries at a side area.
Despite any precautions we take, I don’t see how most of us avoid contact with this.

After we found out this flu was a non event for children we should have handled it like all the previous Chicom pandemics in our lifetime. Maybe lock up the sick oldsters, but continue to go about our lives.

I’m in the Bay Area where supposedly we’ve been in “shelter in place” since Tues. And yet everyone is constantly going to the grocery store. Every day. With huge crowds.
It’s the opposite of social distancing and when we look back on this I think will be shown to have been a huge mistake. The grocery store exceptions. But then—people also have to eat.
We now will raise a generation of preppers who never again will be caught without lots of rice and beans on hand.
Unfortunately today is shaping up to be the worst day, over 7000 new cases, almost 100 new dead in the US. Big spike today, mostly in New York.
Ruining the economy too much will certainly mean panic and more death.
That happened to me yesterday. He doesnt believe there’s a virus.
And that’s a separate point. New York is probably being mismanaged. And it has a very dense population.
You can say that again, look who they voted for.

Here in NJ liquor stores were deemed “essential” and can remain open; people are also going to grocery stores, but that situation has calmed down - only large main ones are still crowded, and in my town that is probably due to the fact that neighboring Newark NJ (NJ’s largest city) has few supermarkets.
Having people plan in advance is a good thing; I don’t blame people for not anticipating this (the scale/situation is very unusual compared to storms and such), but now we know.
Perhaps anyone who can work from home should continue to do so for some tine after people whose jobs cannot be done from home go back to work. Most of the working class people in this country have to be present at their jobs and cannot work from home. It seems that many of the people of great influence and making the decisions can work from home even if that means they are on television remotely from their homes. The elite of our country may not even personally know anyone in the working class, except possibly as a servant.
About liquor—so I have a year’s worth of wine at home. My husband and I are sharing one bottle a night as always, but are no longer replacing them.
When this is over, assuming we keep our jobs, we will start replenishing our stock. :) There will be wine bargains out there. Already are.
The meds combo should be available as a call in prescription form any doctor for anyone found with a fever and coughing. Tests should be made available asap to all symptomatic. In that order. Yes, treat now, test when you can. How could that hurt? (Eventually the tests will be ubiquitous) And after 14 days from that, everyone goes back to work.

If we let this disease run out of control, it will not help the economy.
People will feel its every man for himself. They will panic more, refuse to go to work or send their kids to school.
Let’s not pretend that there’s any scenario where the economy doesn’t tank.

Very true. There is no question about that. The triage ultimately has to favor saving the economy over saving lives. I just hope they don’t wait too long to make that choice.
