Some good news - Trump’s rhetoric lately seems to be recognizing that this Coronavirus is overblown, relative to the economic damage of a lockdown. He is discussing suicides, apparently. Noteworthy that suicides per 100000 went up by about 4 or 5 (17 to 21, approximately) when the Great Depression started. If he thinks economy first he might save 10000 lives from suicide relative to a cost of a few thousand extra deaths due to Coronavirus.
Also note the next trick - almost all deaths will be attributed to Coronavirus over the next year but the death rate won’t change. The key is if a 90 year old dies of old age but has a posthumous positive test for Corona, then the cause of death will be Corona as opposed to old age. This is insidious and must be called out. It is one of the reasons for the large number of deaths attributed to Corona in Italy.

It’s looking like the mortality rate is going to settle in somewhere between 0.4-0.7%. That is very significant and serious. But nowhere near the 4-5% they pitched at Trump when he agreed to the shutdown.
Hockey Stick Graph Guy and I took polar opposite positions on this. As is generally the case the truth is working out to be somewhere in between.
They duped Trump on the mortality rate, but now actual scientific data is showing that it was overestimated by about 7X to 10X. I think he is about to show some people the door and roll the dice. Also, serological testing will soon show that this has been around for many months.
I think you are right on all counts except Trump doesn’t like to fire during an event/crisis (think Russian investigation). He will likely fire afterward.

There is a difference between dying WITH coronavirus and dying FROM coronavirus.
I read somewhere that that the average death rate in Italy was 1,700 per day. They are currently averaging around 700 deaths per day from COVID-19 (in theory 2,400 per day total deaths)
If those 700 are on top of the average 1,700 then the virus is as bad as it seems. If the daily death rate is eg. 2,200 per day (and not 2,400) then the coronvirus is causing less deaths that the headline figure would suggest.
Always remember this rule of thumb: When the government tells you that some horrific event is going to happen, IT WON’T; or, put another way, if a horrific mass death incident occurs, you can bet our incompetent Government had plenty of warning and did not alert the public....The proof:
1) Y2K-—Nuclear power plants would melt down....
2) Ozone depletion-—never happened
3) Swine Flu in late ‘70s—never materialized
4) heterosexual AIDS-—BIG ASS LIE

Yes, you are right. The feds have to get the numbers up to prove they were right. And of course the media is going 24/7 breathlessly reporting the same thing over and over.
I bet they also knew about the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020.
My mother died on February 16 at age 92. She was in poor health and we had known for at least a month that she was in her last weeks. Had she contracted coronovirus in January, she would have died then. And she would have been counted as a coronavirus death statistic. Context matters.
My great uncle was counted as a tobacco death statistic because he chewed snuff.
He was 94 when he passed.
Government likes to play games with stats.

They’re trying hard to bump up the WuFlu death rate. There was a guy who had a heart attack and went to the hospital. He came around. Then, two days later, he had another heart attack and died. Tests afterward showed he had been infected with WuFlu, but he hadn’t had any symptoms. So they entered his cause of death as COVID-19 instead of heart attack. (Whatever it takes to make Trump look incompetent, right?)
It’s not as bad as the flu, it’s a common cold, the sniffles.
Once it’s confirmed that both the infectiousness and mortality were wildly overstated, the question is what to make of the wild stories coming out of China in the early days. Were there in fact no crematoriums running 24/7 or mass graves visible from space, or was there something actually going on? Was mortality much higher in China due to demographic, lifestyle, and public health factors there?
Or was this in fact not a bio weapon as many here insisted, but a fairly run of the mill virus used to launch a carefully orchestrated orchestrated disinformation campaign designed to tank the US economy?
This has never, ever been about the WuFlu. That was just the vehicle used to crater the economy. That was the goal.

For many people the cold is worse than Corona. In fact, I would rather if my infant contracted Corona than the common cold.

You call it a “vehicle”. I have called it a “tool” to bring down Trump via the economy. Vehicle. Tool. Yup.
And the wonderful news is that “they” are failing. They have upped his approval numbers. Seems that happens often, i.e., when they try to take him down he comes back stronger. (Thank you, God. Prayer is getting POTUS through this, and he’s aware of the shield of prayers surrounding him every minute of the day.)
