If anyone is looking for an online church service, ours streams live. Actually we have cases in our church so they are only online right now:

“Our health care workers are at greater risk to be sure, but, I still think we need at least a billion N95 masks a month for the next few months, to return to some semblance of safety AND economic recovery.”

That number is about right. China is making 100M per day now (but we don’t get any), and Taiwan is making 10M per day (they didn’t listen to the FluBros and immediately ramped up mask production). The pillow guy is promising something like 50,000 per week - better than nothing, but not much.

It would be nice if some of our larger companies got busy trying to make masks, but knowing how things work there, they probably gave up once they saw that they couldn’t import the rubber needed for the straps (no one told them that non-elastic laces also work).

“The Latest: Fauci warns U.S. could see some 100,000 deaths”

“WASHINGTON — The U.S. government’s foremost infection disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, says the U.S. will certainly have “millions of cases” of COVID-19 and more than 100,000 deaths.

As the U.S. tops the world in reported infections from the new coronavirus, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases predicts 100,000-200,000 deaths from the outbreak in the U.S.

The U.S. is currently reporting more than 124,000 cases and more than 2,100 deaths.

Fauci was speaking to CNN’s “State of the Union” as the federal government is discussing rolling back guidelines on social distancing in areas that have not been hard-hit by the outbreak.

Fauci says he would only support the rollback in lesser-impacted areas if there is enhanced availability of testing in place to monitor those areas. He acknowledged “it’s a little iffy there” right now.”

Since it is so quiet this morning, I have been reading my favorite wacko conspiracy web site (that shall not be named..).

Half of the posts claim this is a total fraud, and there is no there there.

The other half accuse China of cooking this horrible virus up to destroy the world and take over as the new boss.

They appear to be unable to see the contradiction between the two views!

Easy, tiger. I know how you feel. My kin is in Cumberland, and nothing would make me feel better than coming up and kneecapping some sonofabitch just to vent spleen. This circus has hit my family, too, and Hogan, that fat, pig-faced, gun snatching RINO is no better than Newsom or Cuomo. Maryland’s ass sucks canal water. We had a better class of crooks in office prior to the 90’s.

This just appeared on Facebook about Staten Island but it applies to all:

This is from a Doctor here on Staten Island , this isn’t a joke control your kids people !!!!!!!
Dear Staten Island,

SARS-CoV2 did NOT disappear because the weather is nice today. It is absolutely infuriating to leave the hospital and see half of the island out and about as I drive down Hylan Blvd. Windows down? Bikes out? Headed to the park? Going for a stroll? Going out to get a bite to eat? Are you kidding me?

Let me tell you about what is actually happening on Staten Island, and we will keep it to just this week...

1) My hospital is almost entirely filled with COVID-19 patients. The only non-COVID unit left is our Oncology Unit. If you or your loved one needs admission for whatever reason, exposure and contraction of the disease is significantly increased.

2) There is legitimate concern about running out of ventilators. We were pretty close to being out as of a day or so ago. Patients are staying in the vents ~2 weeks, and eventually they will be maxed out if we don’t slow this down. No explanation needed.

3) The “elderly at risk” includes a 30 year old that was intubated today with no past medical history. This may be anecdotal evidence, however, the average age of intubated patients appears to be 50s-60s with no severe past medical history.

4) WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY EXTUBATED 1 PATIENT IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. Just one. That means the mortality of the critically-ill is through the roof despite our best efforts, with some of the best intensivists in NY on staff.

5. Every single doctor in the hospital has lost count of how many patients and families they’ve talked to about DNR/DNI.

6. In a single day, I took two nurses to the ED after collapsing during their shift.

7. Doctors, nurses, PCAs are already dropping like flies, and we haven’t come close to peaking yet.

Honestly, is staying in the comfort of your beautiful home too difficult for you?

I haven’t seen my fiancé, my family, or my friends all week because I am afraid of giving them a deadly disease after I was severely exposed to a COVID-19 patient (deceased within 48 hours). My nose and cheeks are starting to bruise from wearing a face mask for hours every day. And every healthcare worker in the hospital is sitting on edge, just waiting for their turn to get infected...

But my heart bleeds for you, because you’re going “stir crazy” while stuck in a house with the people you love most. Unreal.

Sincerely,

Your local resident physician and probably every person in heath care.

Have you seen this pattern? Looks good and easy to make. I’m drafting my 84 year old mom to get cracking for the family. Could be a good business opportunity as well. :-)

Thank you! That’s the same pattern that I have, but...your page goes into a lot more detail about the facing and the insert! Yay!!
(I think I’m going to leave one side of the ‘pocket’ open, so the filter medium can be replaced. Not sure, still thinking on that one.)

Also, from another craft site, I saw where you can use those cute, colorful, elastic hair ties, for the ear bands. (I prefer masks w/the ear bands, rather than ones that go over head.)

I have a ton of old fat quarters - lots of different fun colors/themes - that I’m going to practice with.

A co-worker, of my sister’s, did go to Mardi Gras...with a group of friends. Most are in their 60s, I think.

So far, so good. I think they mostly stayed in their hotel, during the rowdiest part of the festivities (night). This is a group of friends who’ve been going together, for decades :- /

Austin will indeed see a huge surge of cases. I’m just north of Austin and there were Spring Break idiots and now stupid vacationers partying like there’s no tomorrow. For some of them and us, there may be no tomorrow.

I tried to talk to the next door neighbor yesterday back porch to back porch and we had to give up because the party noise was so loud we couldn’t hear each other.

A week ago, our moronic county officials encouraged people to break the stay home and come stay in vacation rentals. Sure, come spread the virus to our little town. Contaminate our grocery store. Contaminate our gas pump handles. Contaminate our restaurant drive thru workers. Contaminate the housekeepers of those rentals.

Spain has already been taking respirators off those aged 65 and doping them up with drugs so they die peacefully. Dead bodies are being stacked in an ice rink in Madrid.

Maybe Cuomo could ship us all those ventilators he’s keeping in storage.

I think you’re overguesstimating.

Fauci predicts 'millions' of US coronavirus cases, 100K-200K deaths

Sticking with my back-of-napkin of 200k, barring a cure. Will take another look on 1 Apr. Sincerely hope we have all overestimated the numbers - if so, it will be due to the quarantine and effective treatments.

Hmmm... Let me know if you hear about anything for sole proprietors doing 1099 work that has evaporated...

(Thanks for previous suggestions too. Am still looking into online tutoring and such.)

I could probably get a “written notification” from my last “customer” stating why they were “discontinuing my services” as I was told on the phone, and I have my statement (1099-misc) for 2019, of course.
