Now, government at all levels has gleefully grabbed more power than they’re entitled to and it will be hell to get it back if we ever do.

Based on my observations, the enforcement arm isn't keen on really making sure the lock-downs have teeth. That may be the saving grace in all this--the wannabe tyrants simply lack the man-power to do all that they want to. And eventually, most people are going to get really, really tired of the ramped-up rules of the "new normal."
