Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Sunday that he signed a series of new measures into law aimed at expanding access to voting in the commonwealth.
The new legislation will establish Election Day as a holiday, remove the requirement that voters show a photo ID prior to casting a ballot and, expand early voting to be allowed 45 days before an election without a stated reason.
"Voting is a fundamental right, and these new laws strengthen our democracy by making it easier to cast a ballot, not harder," Northam said in a statement. "No matter who you are or where you live in Virginia, your voice deserves to be heard. I'm proud to sign these bills into law."
Several states and cities have already made Election Day a civic holiday, including Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky and New York. State offices typically close, though it depends on the state whether employees are entitled to paid time off to vote.
Proponents say making Election Day a holiday could improve voter turnout. But Election Day may not become a federal holiday anytime soon -- it's drawn deep division along party lines.

He forgot something. Voting is a fundamental right...for a CITIZEN.
But Governor Blackface also signed liberal legislation removing the requirement to prove identity or citizenship.
Voting is a PRIVILEGE - always has been.
Democrats everywhere have been ordered to convert the system for all methods of vote fraud. They are willing to do anything now to stay in power.
And every louse-ridden non-citizen will be sure to vote twice.
Voting is a PRIVILEGE - always has been.

Used to be true. No longer.
No chance of voter fraud here! /s
No more photo ID for voting. The Left is going to make it impossible to win back the government through the ballot box and thus make it inevitable that other means must be used.
Easy for the crat voters. They can go to the beach knowing the election officials will cast their votes for them
<>Voting is a fundamental right<>
Uh, no. But thanks for sharing your idiocy.
The people support photo ID, but not Democrats. Nothing to do but pass it again in 2022 if 2021 goes well in Virginia.
Looks like it was at one time, then came section 2 of the 14th amendment in 1868
check this out.

looks like the 14th Amendment is the first place it nails down the right to vote and the qualifications to do so.
Then the 15th, then the 19th then the 26th.
Make it easier for people with jobs to vote... so he has to make it easier for the Dems to cheat too.
Yep rights apply to ALL
Children and uncitizens cannot legally vote
Virginia seems to be sliding more and more to the left.
I assume it’s because so many people employed by the ever expanding federal government, contractors, and think tanks live there.
In fact, rights come from The Maker, not from government, and cant be taken away. The right to self defense is God given. The privilege of voting is built into our government, and CAN be taken if we get complacent.
A privilege can be taken away. A right cannot. (Well for free men in a free country anyway). As far as I know, the only people who lose the right to vote are felons who by nature of their crime lose virtually all civil rights.
Therefore I dont buy your argument.

Really is suspicious how Democrats go against 80% of the American public (and that's national with California and New York, it's probably higher in Virginia alone.)
No, its not government employees.
Its illegal aliens and green card Asians.
They vote by the tens or hundreds of thousands in Virginia, mostly in Northern Virginia where Democrats are in total control.
It was caused by establishment Republicans who sat by and did nothing over the last fifteen years because they did not want the Washington Post to call them racist.
Virginia is now permanently blue -forever.
